What is a Heat Pump?
Heat Pumps are extremely energy efficient even when it is cold outside!
Mitsubishi Electric air conditioners (or Heat Pumps) are capable of transferring up to 4kW of heat into a room while only consuming 1kW of electrical energy.

Compare this to a conventional electric bar heater or gas heating system where 1kW of energy consumed can only produce a maximum of 1kW of heat energy. This makes Heat Pumps extremely energy efficient in comparison to other forms of heating.

The energy efficiency of a Heat Pump decreases as the temperature difference between inside and outside becomes greater, but it typically provides 4 times as much heat as a normal electric space heater would provide with the same amount of electricity input.

Furthermore, Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pumps guarantee heating performance even when outdoor temperatures get down to as low as -15 degrees.
But what happens when it is really cold outside?
You may wonder how heat energy can be absorbed when it is really cold outside.

Like a refrigerator Heat Pumps have a system of pipes containing refrigerant.

Due to its superior energy efficiency Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pumps use the refrigerant R410A. R410A needs very little heat to reach boiling point to evaporate. As it boils and evaporates at -51.4 degrees Celsius, this means that even on the coldest of days a Heat Pump system is still able to draw enough heat energy from sub zero temperatures to provide adequate heat output if sized correctly.
